I am a wife, mom of 2 girls, lover of pugs, pizza and all things buffalo chicken. My house plants are taking over my home and I'm not mad about it.
I attended OCAD and completed my Bachelor Degree in Environmental Design. In 2014, after having my first daughter,I was searching for a creative outlet so I started painting again. An Instagram Art challenge that started as a monthlong accountability exercise turned into an Etsy shop, where I sold art prints. After I officially launched my website, It wasn’t long before my business exploded and clients I had only ever dreamed of working with wanted my art.
Even as my dreams were becoming reality, my journey hasn’t always been so easy. When I struggled with chronic pain, doctors misdiagnosed me with fibromyalgia, until 2017 when I received my diagnosis of Chronic Lyme Disease. In 2020 I flew to Germany for a 3 week inpatient treatment and have seen immeasurable healing. These days, staying at home with my two daughters and harnessing my art into a business has led me to just the right balance that helps me provide for my family and continue to focus on health + wellness.
Life can demand a lot of us, too often leading us down the path of stress, self-doubt, and the desire for perfection. But art is that magic, wonderful intersection where we can breathe, be ourselves, and let our intuition take over. Art heals, and small moments of reflection and calm can come from the beautiful art we surround ourselves with.
Art will always be my reminder to slow down, reset, and take a moment to connect. I hope it will be yours, too.
Q+A
Why is art important to you?
Art has always been an outlet for me, from a very young age. Colour is my passion. Creating allows me to dream big and create my own world.
Why is it important for people to have art in their home or life?
Art in our daily lives is a reminder/excuse to stop and take in the beauty around us. To have a mini vacation from the moment to moment of our daily lives and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us.
What kind of artwork do you have in your home?
I am an avid art collector! I treat myself to new art from up and coming artists often, and love supporting other artists livelihoods.
What do you listen to when you work?
Music. Always. I can't be more specific because it varies every single day, but, I find the music helps me set the vibe in my studio and informs my movements on the canvas
Favourite medium
Acrylic, but I love dabbling in oils for smaller pieces.
When I'm not making art, I'm (a) ...
hanging out with my family, tending to my house plants, and getting outside. Surrounding myself by the sounds of nature helps to me to reset and inspires my work on the daily.
